Earlier this week an eight-year-old Yemeni girl died of internal bleeding on her wedding night after marrying a man five times her age. According to UNFPA Between 2011 and 2020, more than 140 million girls will become child brides, 39,000 every day. This appaling violation of human rights must stop. Casi la mitad de las mujeres de Yemen se casaron cuando eran niñas. Una pequeña yemení de sólo 8 años murió tras ser violada por un hombre de 40 años. El culpable es nada menos que su marido, quien cometió estos abusos la noche de bodas con la menor, en un matrimonio arreglado por sus padres.
El hecho sucedió en la zona tribal de Hardh, al noroeste de Yemen, y conmovió al mundo. Según informó el diario kuwaití Al Watan, la niña se llamaba Rawan .
